On this five day break we amble through the countryside of Lincolnshire and Rutland, discovering the home of pork pies, the expansive waters of Rutland Water and the sheer majesty of Burghley House. And no visit to the region would be complete without exploring the unique medieval city of Lincoln.

Excursions
FULL DAY: This morning to Lincoln, where the magnificent cathedral is the third largest in Britain, perched on top of a hill and visible for miles around. In this oldest part of the city, the castle was built over the original Roman town whilst the newer shopping area lies at the foot of the aptly named Steep Hill.
FULL DAY: This morning we make our way to historic Burghley House, one of the grandest surviving houses of the 16th Century and with beautiful gardens created by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in the 18th Century. Remaining in the same family for 16 generations, since the original Lord Burghley, the grounds are best known for its international horse trials. Afterwards we enjoy some free time in lovely Stamford, regarded as one of the finest stone towns in England where its elegant façades have often been used in films and on TV.
FULL DAY: A full day ahead of us as we drive to Melton Mowbray, best known for its famous pork pies, before we continue to Oakham, the county town of Rutland and brimming with unique shops, impressive ancient buildings and rich heritage. We conclude our day at the vast Rutland Water, where we enjoy the scenery and wildlife on a leisurely cruise of the reservoir.
