Description
HIGHLIGHTS: Cornish coastal scenery, Padstow, Mevagissey, Isles of Scilly day trip, Looe.
Pride of the spectacular Atlantic Coast, Newquay has a string of golden beaches and a character and warm welcome that is very much part of the Cornish tradition. The picturesque Old Harbour is a delight to explore, the busy town centre vibrates with holiday fun and Trenance Gardens abounds with activity. All this, together with the breathtaking coastal scenery and unspoilt surrounding countryside, makes Newquay the most popular resort in the Duchy of Cornwall. And of course it's the perfect base for a visit to the idyllic Isles of Scilly - a highlight of this lovely five day break.
**Please note it is a condition of travel with Grand UK, for all passengers to hold valid travel insurance for the duration of their tour.**
Itinerary
Excursions
FULL DAY: This morning to the South Cornwall coast and the resort village of Looe, renowned in years past as a haunt for smugglers. The church in West Looe was built mainly from the timbers of wrecked ships. We continue to Mevagissey, an ancient fishing port with narrow streets and a picture-postcard harbour that today is a popular tourist destination.
FULL DAY: An early start to catch the ferry from Penzance to the Isles of Scilly and to St. Mary's, the largest island. We disembark in the capital, Hugh Town and join a local guide for a circular mini-bus drive around the island before we return on the afternoon sailing to Penzance.
HALF DAY: This morning we take the coastal route, via the breathtaking scenery of Bedruthan Steps, to Padstow. This historic fishing port on the edge of King Arthur's country is renowned today as much for its pretty quayside as its association with celebrity chef Rick Stein.
