HIGHLIGHTS: Holy Island, Bamburgh, Alnwick, Tynemouth, Hexham, Durham

Stretching from the unspoilt wilds of the Northumberland National Park to the outstanding beauty of the Heritage Coast, the Kingdom of Northumbria has everything for a perfect holiday. Lush rolling countryside, spectacular forests, glorious sandy beaches, quaint villages and historic market towns mingle with mighty castles and ancient monuments.

Itinerary

Excursions
FULL DAY: We make our way to Holy Island (subject to tidal conditions), known locally as Lindisfarne, famed for being the birthplace of English Christianity. We return via the stunning Northumbria coastal route stopping in Bamburgh with its iconic castle and fascinating Grace Darling Museum.

FULL DAY: This morning we make our way to Hexham with its stately Abbey and Roman influences. This afternoon we head for Durham with its magnificent Norman cathedral which towers above a loop in the River Wear and delightful cobbled, medieval streets.

FULL DAY: To Alnwick, where its fairytale castle, often referred to as 'the Windsor of the North', dominates the town. Afterwards we head to the Tyneside coast and the upmarket resort of Tynemouth, with its priory ruins and unique individual shops.

Joining Your Grand UK Coach Holiday
For 2024 we have introduced improvements to our network of local pick up points across the eastern, central and southern England, aimed at shortening your journey times and getting you away on holiday more easily and conveniently, meaning an altogether more relaxing start. We now have two pick up regions so your travel days will be more convenient, providing more efficient journeys, meeting your tour manager and fellow travellers earlier and in most cases arriving in resort earlier, please refer to our Pick-ups section below for more details.
The Tour Ref below indicates whether the tour departs from Area A or Area B by having either an A or B at the end. For example, GUK5A would be a tour departing from Area A.

Traveling from Departure Area B: Be picked up from your free local departure point, and join your tour coach at our interchange area at Beaconsfield Services, M40, junction 2.
