Spend a delightful day in Dundee visiting the V&A Scotland’s Design Museum with free time to explore the compact, waterfront city that has so much to offer its visitors. Travel along the coast to discover the picturesque harbour town of Arbroath home to the famous Arbroath Smokie. Visit Glamis Castle, legendary setting of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and beloved childhood home of The Queen Mother. Travel across the Tay Road Bridge to enjoy spectacular views as we journey to St Andrews for a guided walking tour of this wonderful, university city. A great tour not to be missed of the delightful Dundee and Angus region.
Itinerary
Monday
Depart Leyland at 09.00hrs for our journey to the outskirts of Dundee with a suitable lunch stop en-route.
Tuesday
This morning following breakfast travel the short journey to Dundee to visit the V&A Museum followed by free time to explore, allowing time for lunch, there is plenty of choice in the city's many cafes and restaurants to suit every palate, perhaps visit RRS Discovery and Discovery Point the 5-star attraction located adjacent to the V&A, or discover the story behind Dundee's industrial, textile heritage at Discovery's sister museum, Verdant Works, return to the hotel mid-afternoon
Wednesday
This morning following breakfast we visit to the pretty harbour town of Arbroath, home to the famous Arbroath Smokie, perhaps visit the Signal Tower Museum (free admission) at the harbour to learn of Arbroath's Maritime Heritage and the world-famous Smokie or sample Arbroath Smokies at MM Spinks on Marketgate, perhaps walk up to The Fit o the Toon, the old part of the town where the Brothock Burn meets the sea. In the afternoon we travel to Forfar to visit Glamis Castle, the legendary setting for Shakespeare's Macbeth and once beloved childhood home to the Queen Mother.
Thursday
This morning following breakfast we journey to The Royal and Ancient Golf Club at St Andrews to pick up our guide for a 2hr walking tour around the main sights of St Andrews, discover how it is home to golf, the oldest university in Scotland and more. Explore St Andrews as you walk in the footsteps of golfing legends, the Royals, heretics who were burned at the stake, famous cats and those who live in St Andrews today. Your local, knowledgeable guide will certainly bring St Andrews to life. Key stops will include: Old Course Golf Course, St Andrews Castle, St Andrews Cathedral, and the University of St Andrews.
Friday
Check out of our hotel following breakfast for the return journey home with a suitable lunch stop en-route.
