Itinerary
Included Excursions
Bodmin Jail & Padstow (full day)
There are plenty of dark secrets, mysteries and haunting tales locked away within Bodmin Jail’s formidable walls. Clutching onto the fringes of Bodmin Moor, this former prison was one of the first in the UK with individual cells, and we have the chance to find out more about its grimy history. We also discover more about the punishments and type of inmates, including smugglers, highwaymen, wreckers and more. Brave visitors can even visit the condemned cell and the original hanging pit.
Ready to blow away the cobwebs yet? We head towards the gorgeous port town of Padstow which dishes up plenty of culinary culture, fresh seaside air and lovely harbourside views. It’s the perfect spot to tuck into a delicious Cornish pasty or two!
Charlestown & Falmouth (full day)
Brooding, windswept and with steal-your-missus good looks…are we referring to Captain Ross Poldark or Charlestown itself?! It’s hard to mention one without the other since this picturesque bay was featured heavily in the popular BBC TV series. Truly an unspoiled example of a late Georgian working port, it’s a wonderful place to admire the quaint fisher cottages while wandering through the worn-by-time cobbled streets. You may even spy a tall ship or two in the harbour!
This afternoon we visit Falmouth, a delightful coastal town and popular sailing destination with a proud seafaring history, rich artistic heritage and, of course, fine beaches (Gylly was voted one of the top ten beaches in the country)! It’s home to the deepest harbour in Western Europe and other attractions include Pendennis Castle and the National Maritime Museum Cornwall.
Optional Excursion
Penzance & St Ives – £14pp (full day)
On our optional excursion we first head to Penzance, nestled in a sheltered position in beautiful Mounts Bay. The lovely town still holds all the charms of a bygone age, with an attractive seafront promenade and sub-tropical gardens. The crowning jewel is easily St Michael’s Mount. Connected to the mainland by a cobbled causeway, this ancient tidal island is truly the stuff of Famous Five adventures!
Of all the Cornish destinations, we think St Ives is the fairest of them all! Hasselback hills adorned with a higgle-piggle of pitched rooftops gaze out to sea and you can spend hours meandering through the jumble of teeny lanes that hopscotch all the way down to those blue, blue waters. Grab yourself a scoop of Cornish clotted cream ice cream and soak up the scenery.
