Join us as we head to Ramsey on the Isle of Man for our wonderful Spring, Gulf Stream Isle Adventure. The isle is unspoilt, and spring is one of the best seasons to visit as it awakens from its winter sleep. Located in the heart of the Irish Sea the island is rich in extraordinary nature, ancient and compelling history and vibrant culture. On our tour visit the North of the island, here lies hidden delights, cloaked by emerald hilltops, crystal clear waters and scenic roads where there is much to be discovered. Travel to the beautiful South through fishing villages, surrounded by beaches and glens. Sit back and enjoy sweeping Douglas Bay as we take a journey on the Worlds oldest surviving horse drawn tram service. Visit the pretty seaside town of Peel home to traditional oak smoked Manx Kippers with a visit to Moore’s Kipper Yard and Museum. Discover the last remaining stronghold of the Manx language and culture on a visit to Cregneash Village. Uncover great beauty on a visit to the historic house and gardens at Milntown House. What are you waiting for, Gulf Stream Isle awaits, you won’t be disappointed.
Itinerary
Sunday - Depart Leyland at 11.30am as we begin our journey to the Isle of Man, board the 14.15hrs Isle of Man Steam Packet ferry from Heysham to Douglas in the Isle of Man, arriving at 18:00hrs, travel to our hotel in Ramsey where we will arrive in time for our evening meal.
Monday - Thursday
Morning visit to Milntown House and Gardens, return to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure in Ramsey, perhaps book a trip on the Manx Electric Railway, visit the town and the quayside, or take a leisurely walk along the front, a short walk away from the hotel is the Fynoderee Distillery, perhaps pay a visit and sample one of their many cocktails, the choice is yours.
Long Half Day - Following breakfast we travel across to the South of the island to visit Cregneash, one of the last strongholds of the Manx language and customs, step inside the Manx cottages to discover how crofters lived through stories, skills, and craft demonstrations. You may see cats with no tails, longhorn sheep and farming practices from days gone by will be on display. Followed by a visit to Port Erin with a little free time to explore, re-join the coach as we continue our discovery of the Gulf Stream Isle, travel to the southernmost tip of the island to the Sound, a hotspot for sunbathing seals and wildlife, enjoy magnificent panoramic, coastal views over to the Calf of Man with time to visit the Sound Café, take a stroll or just sit and take in the magnificent view with time for some wonderful photo opportunities.
Long Half Day - Following breakfast take a scenic tour of the North of the island, travel the coast road to Laxey, home to one of the Isle of Mans most iconic landmarks where we will make a short photo stop, re-join the coach to travel the island to Peel the pretty seaside town and small fishing port, if you're a fan of kippers this is the best place to buy them, they've been cured here using the same traditional method since 1884, you can even have them posted home. Take a tour of Moore's Kipper Yard and Museum followed by free time in Peel, perhaps make visits to The House of Manannan to learn of the islands Viking and maritime past, or the islands only cathedral, discover a wealth of history, art and culture within Peel's streets, not to mention the wealth of independent shops, take a break in one of the towns cafes or inns to sample the areas local delights.
Long Half Day - following breakfast travel across the island to its capital Douglas, enjoy the magnificent sweep of Douglas Bay as we take a journey on the Worlds oldest surviving horse drawn tram service before spending free time exploring the Manx capital. Take a relaxing walk along the continuous series of promenades, see if you can spot the much loved, iconic statues along the way. Back from the seafront there are wonderful shopping opportunities, bars, cafes and restaurants. Perhaps take a journey on the Isle of Man Steam Railway, visit the Gaiety Theatre or the Manx National Heritage Museum, there's plenty to do here, the choice is yours.
Friday
Check out of our hotel following an early breakfast as we head to Douglas Port for the 08.45am ferry back to Heysham where we will re-join the coach to continue our journey home.
