Take a break in the seaside town of Whitby, where colourful cottages cling to the hillsides, the iconic abbey ruins watch over the harbour and the scent of fish and chips fills the salty sea air. From this charming base, we explore the best of Yorkshire's coast and countryside, including a nostalgic journey on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway with stops at Pickering and Goathland, the village made famous by Heartbeat and Harry Potter. For those eager to see more, an optional excursion to historic York reveals medieval walls, grand architecture and lively shops and cafés - perfect for a memorable day.

We explore the lovely town of Scarborough where we have time at leisure to explore. Situated on Yorkshire's coast between two large bays, Scarborough styles itself as the UK's oldest seaside resort and has been welcoming visitors for some 360 years.

Wonderful Whitby & the North Yorkshire Moors Railw
We enjoy a nostalgic day travelling through the spectacular North York Moors on the heritage North Yorkshire Moors Railway, one of Britain's most scenic steam railways. Our day begins at Goathland, the charming moorland village made famous by Heartbeat and Harry Potter. We have time to explore the station before boarding the train to Pickering, soaking up views of rolling moorland and wooded valleys. On arrival, we enjoy time to explore this historic market town, perhaps visit the castle or enjoy lunch in a cosy café. Our return journey is by coach via a scenic route, offering more breathtaking views of this beautiful region.

Optional Excursion to York (£15pp)
For our optional excursion, we head to the historic city of York. There is plenty to see but first on the list must be the glorious York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe with world-famous stained-glass windows. Other highlights include the narrow, cobbled streets of the 'Shambles' where the buildings date back to medieval times, the Jorvik Centre which tells the story of York's Viking heritage, and the ancient walls surrounding the city. The famous Betty's tea rooms are also worth a visit.
