Austrian Lakes & Salzburg
Day 1 - After joining your holiday coach, head south to Dover for your ferry crossing to Calais. Continue through France and into Germany for your overnight hotel stop. Bed & breakfast.Day 2 - Drive on for your first sight of the magnificent Alps and scenic Austrian countryside to your selected hotel for your 5 or 6-night stay. Salzkammergut, Mondsee, St Gilgen & St Wolfgang
Journey through the lake district, known as the Salzkammergut to the beautiful village of Mondsee, by the shores of a crystal-clear lake surrounded by lush forests. You can see the church where the wedding between Maria and Captain von Trapp took place and then it's on to St Gilgen, a village that was a source of inspiration for Mozart and home to his mother. Full of character with its frescoed houses, take a stroll past interesting shops and bustling cafes. Make a stop in picture perfect St Wolfgang before heading back to the hotel.Salzburg
Salzburg - one of Europe's most enchanting cities, famous as the birthplace of Mozart and the setting for "The Sound of Music". A charming Baroque city in its own right, it is dominated by the magnificent Hohensalzburg Fortress, church steeples, quaint courtyards and magnificent buildings. Don't miss the famous Getreidegasse, the narrow lane in which Mozart was born and of course who could resist skipping and dancing through the glorious Mirabell gardens? Head to Bad Ischl, the handsome spa town made famous by Emperor Franz Josef as the location of his summer residence. Then it is off to picturesque Hallstatt, nestled on the banks of the Halstättersee with a backdrop of the towering Dachstein mountains - truly a photographer's delight. A leisurely day across the border into Southern Germany to explore the atmospheric city of Passau on the confluence of the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz, with its charming old town full of romantic lanes, picturesque squares, baroque architecture and the magnificent St Steven's Cathedral home to the world's largest church organ. Your driver may be able to offer you an optional guided walking tour of the city centreDay 7 or 8 - Today it's farewell to Austria as you return through Germany for the final overnight stop. Bed & breakfast.Return Day - After breakfast, we continue through Belgium and France to Calais for the return to England.
