We head to the delightful city of Chester, where the fascinating sights span the centuries. Wander through the streets of black and white timber-framed buildings and double-height shops or visit the remains of the city's Roman Amphitheatre. As well as an abundance of historical attractions, Chester also has a thriving shopping centre with a host of cafés, restaurants and pubs to tempt you.

On our optional excursion, we head to the traditional Victorian seaside town of Southport. Known as England's Classic Resort, it is home to the country's second-longest and oldest pier and beautiful architecture, plus some lovely parks and gardens, perfect for a leisurely stroll.

The historic Adelphi Hotel is one of Liverpool's best-loved landmarks in the heart of the city. The hotel has many original period features, including chandeliers and marble halls, and facilities include two bars and a restaurant. All meals are buffet style.

Hotels with a JG2 rating are a mixture of larger hotels and privately owned properties. Décor and furnishings may be simple but are clean and well maintained. All bedrooms have en-suite facilities, TV and may have tea/coffee making facilities. Food may be buffet style in some of the larger hotels. Services may be limited but efficient.
