Visit Coventry - a city like no other
Coventry was once a major engineering centre and the rejuvenated UK City of Culture 2021. Entrance is included for a self-guided visit ofSt Mary's Guildhall, a hidden gem in the heart of the city, with a rich history of partying, power and propaganda. It acted as the centre of power in England during the War of the Roses, housed the crown jewels and been the prison of Mary Queen of Scots. In the stunning Great Hall, the famous Coventry Tapestry still hangs in its original spot after 500 years. (There is step-free entrance and lifts to the 1st & 2nd floor - other areas accessible by steps only). The Guildhall is right next to the Coventry's must-see Cathedral which opened in 1962, after the massive attack by the Luftwaffe on 14 November 1940 all but destroyed the original building. The new cathedral was built next to the ruins of the old one and its modern design caused much controversy at the time (NB cathedral opening times TBC due to Easter weekend). You may also like to visit the Coventry Transport Museum, a stupendous collection of hundreds of vehicles, from horseless carriages to jet-powered, land-speed-record breakers (entrance not included - approx. £14 per person in 2023).
Stratford upon Avon
Charming Stratford upon Avon is a must whilst in the area. The town is a wonderful treasure trove waiting to be explored. Stroll along charming streets and along the banks of the River Avon and watch the swans glide by and row boats gently splashing in the water. (NB some shops and restaurants may be closed for Easter). Your visit here today includes entrance to Shakespeare's Birthplace, Anne Hathaway's Cottage and Shakespeare's New Place and any exhibitions that are showing.Friday & Saturday nights there will be a Shirley Bassey Tribute act & Tom Jones Tribute act followed by a disco after. Sunday night a quiz and bingo..Day 4 - After breakfast and check out re-join the coach for your return journey back to 'The Green Green Grass of Home! A comfort stop will be made by the river in Benson. The delightful Waterfront Café is an independent eatery with a casual vibe serving simple, uncomplicated food. The setting is second to none; just a stone's throw from the River Thames which makes for the perfect spot to soak up the atmosphere with a bite to eat and a glass of wine - perhaps. Continuing onto interchange and your home towns.
