We head to the charming city of Valencia, the third largest city in Spain after Madrid and Barcelona, founded in 138BC by the Romans. There's plenty to discover, including the picturesque Old Quarter with is labyrinth of cobbled streets, lined with medieval buildings and towers that were once part of the ancient wall that surrounded the old city. There are also city beaches with tree-lined promenades, scenic gardens and an impressive cathedral on offer here.

On our second excursion, we venture inland to the beautiful village of Guadalest, one of the most popular destinations on the Costa Blanca. Curiously perched on top of a rock high in the mountains, this small village boasts spectacular views over the valley and the many other mountains in the area. There are also numerous museums and craft shops where you can stock up on souvenirs, while its castle can only be accessed through a tunnel carved through the rock.
