Itinerary
Varied included visits and entrances
Day 1 - After joining your holiday coach, sit back and relax as your journey takes you northwards. A suitable lunch time stop before arriving at the 3* Holiday Inn Leeds Brighouse for the next 4 nights with porterage on arrival DBB\n\nDay 2 - 4 - At leisure in Yorkshire with three included excursions\n\nINCLUDED EXCURSIONS\nRoyal Armouries Museum & Harewood House\nBring the schoolbooks to life with a visit to the outstanding Royal Armouries Museum, home of the UK's national collection of arms and armour. Explore the museum's five floors of galleries with over 4,500 objects on display. Highlights include Henry VIII's foot combat armour made in 1520; the largest animal armour in the world - elephant armour and tusk swords from the Indian sub-continent of the late-16th Century; one of the most iconic sci-fi weapons of all time - the 'pulse rifle' from the classic 1986 Aliens film.\n\nThere'll be time for a spot of lunch before heading off to fabulous Harewood, one of the Treasure Houses of England. The House was built in the 18th century and has art collections to rival the finest in Britain. Visitors can enjoy exhibitions of contemporary art, the rare Bird Garden, Farm Experience and over 100 acres of exquisite gardens to explore. Harewood House was transformed into Buckingham Palace for both series 1 and 2 of the blockbuster ITV drama, Victoria. Many of the opulent rooms on the State Floor, the famous kitchens Below Stairs as well as exteriors of the house and parts of the Estate were used in the production. From hidden corridors to political scandal, Harewood has many stories to tell.\n\nYorkshire Sculpture Park & National Coal Mining Museum\nSet in a beautiful, landscaped garden laid out in the 18th century, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, situated in the 500-acre, 18th-century Bretton Hall estate, is a place to wander, discover and be amazed. Founded in 1977 by Sir Peter Murray CBE, YSP is the largest sculpture park of its kind in Europe. It is the only place in Europe to see Yorkshire's own Barbara Hepworth's The Family of Man in its entirety, alongside a significant collection of sculpture, including bronzes by Henry Moore. There are lakes, woodlands, gardens and countryside to explore - home to sheep, geese, herons and Highland cows. Set against this beautiful backdrop are 100 outdoor artworks by some of the world's leading artists. (NB some areas of the park may be difficult to access due to uneven terrain but suggested accessible routes are available at the Information Desk).\n\nThen head onwards to the nearby National Coal Mining Museum to find out about the story of coal and how it changed our nation forever. Unearth the stories of life as a coal miner and what it was like to live in a mining community. In the galleries you will see the evolution of the mines and their communities, and you can investigate the mechanical workings of the pit through interactive models and the giant machinery. Discover an industry steeped in pride, camaraderie and community. The Miners' Memorial Garden is the perfect place to relax and reflect. (NB the Underground Tour and Time Tunnel are not included)\n\nSaltaire Village & Keighley & Worth Valley Railway\nHead to Saltaire Village, which owes its name to Sir Titus Salt, a Victorian textile magnate and philanthropist who built a mill and adjoining village for his workers because of the dreadful conditions in nearby Bradford. The village is now an award-winning attraction and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Salts Mills, opened in 1853, is the centrepiece of Sir Titus Salt's utopian vision and cloth production only finally ceased here in 1986. Purchased the following year by the late Jonathan Silver, it has been re-imagined as a place for art, dining and shopping in one stunning historic building. The Gallery on the third floor houses an extensive collection of works by David Hockney and you will find fine independent retail outlet (textiles, jewellery, homewares, cards, books, antiques etc) as well as restaurants, cafes and an exhibition about the history of Saltaire.\n\nThen head off to Keighley, a pretty town, nestled between the charming countryside of Airedale and the Haworth Moorland. The town is the terminus of the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, and you will enjoy a nostalgic trip about this lovingly restored heritage line. The railway line is most famous for its role in the 1970 film version of The Railway Children. (NB may operate by diesel or steam) Disembark in lovely Haworth, a picturesque village surrounded by dramatic moorland and a haven for independent businesses, art galleries, boutiques and then an array of places to eat and drink. Spend your time browsing up and down the cobbled Main Street and fans of the Brontë sisters may want to visit the Brontë Parsonage, home to the Brontë family from 1820 and now a beautifully preserved museum (entrance not included - approx. £13 in 2025 - pre-booking may be required. Closes at 5pm).\n\nDay 5 - After breakfast, say farewell and return homewards, arriving back at your local joining points early to mid-evening.
