Scarborough is a resort of immense style with an elegant promenade running along the top of the cliffs. The mighty castle towers over the impressive headland and in its shadow the town has grown up around the bustling harbour. An included visit to the wonderful Scarborough Fair Collection takes you on a nostalgic trip down memory lane and the heritage North York Moors Railway takes on a journey through the spectacular scenery of the National Park. Summertime on the Yorkshire Coast
Day 1 - After joining your holiday coach, head to the North Yorkshire coast with refreshment stops en-route to your hotel in Whitby. 4 nights DBB\n\nDay 2 - 4 At leisure in Whitby with two included excursions and a full day to explore Whitby independently\n\nThe much-loved fishing town of Whitby is dominated by its cliff-top Abbey, its quaint cobbled streets and picturesque houses standing on the steep slopes of the River Esk. The narrow streets and alleys winding down to the quays of this seafaring town still bustle as they have done for centuries. For the energetic, climb the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey and explore the beautiful ruins which tower over the town. Well known as the home port of the legendary seafarer Captain Cook, it also draws Dracula fans with its many connections to Bram Stoker. Don't forget to sample the world-beating fish and chips, fresh from the harbour. Market day is on Tuesday\n\nINCLUDED EXCURSIONS\nNORTH YORK MOORS RAILWAY, PICKERING & GOATHLAND\nThe NYMR heritage railway (may operate by steam or diesel) takes you today through 24 miles of Yorkshire's most amazing scenery to charming Pickering. The line was originally built as a horse-drawn railway in 1836 making it one of the oldest railways in the world. With stunning views and stylish carriages, the heritage railway is hard to beat for a scenic backdrop and it also played a starring role in TV favourites such as ITV's 'Heartbeat' and 'Downton Abbey', Alight at the must-see 1930's themed Pickering station, a wonderful place to soak up the atmosphere of times gone by, and explore the bustling town, one of the oldest in the area, with its handsome streets, tucked-away alleys and quiet corners. Your coach will take you back to Whitby through the North York Moors National Park via Goathland, the bracing moorland village, known best as 'Aidensfield' in 'Heartbeat'. Goathland Station (which you pass through on your NYMR rail journey became Hogsmeade Station in the first Harry Potter film.\n\n Credit: North York Moors Railway (May operate by steam or diesel)\n\nSCARBOROUGH & THE SCARBOROUGH FAIR COLLECTION\nDiscover the charms of Scarborough, the popular seaside town on the stunning Yorkshire Coast. Blow the cobwebs away on the award winning sandy beaches, from North Bay to South Bay and explore Scarborough's fascinating history through its historic landmarks, from ancient fortresses to grand architectural gems that reveal the town's rich past. Just a few minutes' drive along the coast is the wonderful Scarborough Fair Collection, packed full of exhibits from a bygone era including vintage fairground rides, war time vehicles, charabancs, steam traction engines, heritage cycles and cars and well as a penny arcade. There is something here for every generation to be able to reminisce and say my granddad had one of those!\n\nDay 5 - After breakfast travel homewards with a comfort stop en-route arriving early/mid evening

Royal Hotel Whitby
The excellent 3* Royal Whitby Hotel enjoys a stunning cliff top location in popular Whitby opposite the famous Whalebone Arch with wonderful views on all sides of beaches, the harbour, the old town, the Gothic abbey ruins, and headland. There is a bar and restaurant, and the hotel is approx. 10 minutes' walk from local shops and the riverside. Comfortable guestrooms feature the usual mod cons including tea / coffee making facilities. There is a lift in the hotel but some internal steps. There are some steps at the front of the hotel but there is also flat access via the bar area\n\n\n
