Description
San Francisco • Napa Valley • Sacramento • Lake Tahoe • Oregon Coastline • Grants Pass • Sea Lion Caves • Newport Portland • Mount St. Helens • Seattle
In a country containing much scenic splendour, Oregon and Washington States have more than a fair share of spectacular scenery. The Oregon coastline has a rugged grandeur which has defied big-city incursion - in fact, not a grain of its 400 miles of white-sandy beaches is privately owned. Instead, small communities with a village-like atmosphere are the norm in the north while most of the southern stretch has been left entirely to nature. So much so that the sea lions have their caves there and mate every season. Inland, there are glorious vistas with a background of forested hills and peaks snowcapped the year round. Our tour takes us from San Francisco to Seattle with a feast of sightseeing on the way.
Itinerary
DAY 1 LONDON • SAN FRANCISCO
We begin with Titan HiTours Home Departure Service to London Heathrow Airport and your British Airways flight to San Francisco. On arrival we transfer to the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway Hotel.
DAY 2 SAN FRANCISCO
This morning we have arranged a city tour of San Francisco which, with its colourful mix of cultures, is one of the world’s most sophisticated cities. The afternoon is free to explore. A boat trip from the Wharf will take you to the notorious Alcatraz prison where prisoners, such as Al Capone and Robert ‘the Birdman’ Stroud, were held on the 12 acres of barren rocks surrounded by ice cold treacherous waters. Chinatown, the largest of its kind in the United States, and the adjacent smart shopping centre around Union Square is a great place to stroll, and boarding one of the famous trams you will constantly breast hills that afford views across the city down to the famous Bay.
DAY 3 NAPA VALLEY • LAKE TAHOE
This morning we journey north to the famous wine region of Napa Valley. We visit one of the local wineries here before continuing to the state capital of California beautiful Sacramento. This historic and sophisticated city, with vestiges of a pioneer past, incorporates the Old Sacramento area with 26 acres of shops and restaurants, many of which are vintage buildings dating back to the mid 1800’s. We continue east to Lake Tahoe. Tahoe offers a unique blend of scenic beauty, outdoor facilities and top class shows. The state line between California and Nevada runs through the heart of the town and with Nevada’s more relaxed gambling laws a whole variety of casinos await you. After checking into the centrally located Montbleu Resort Casino we leave
DAY 4 LAKE TAHOE
Whole day to further enjoy Lake Tahoe. This is the largest Alpine Lake in North America with 72 miles of shoreline surrounded by mountain peaks as high as 10,000ft. A host of activities from boat cruises to walking trails are located close by as well as an abundance of shopping opportunities and restaurants.
DAY 5 LAKE TAHOE • GRANTS PASS

We enter Oregon a few miles north of the Klamath River for Grants Pass and the Riverside Inn located on the banks of the Rogue River. The evening is free to dine and relax.
DAY 6 GRANTS PASS
Today we travel to Crater Lake, the seventh deepest lake in the world and highest at 6,177ft above sea level. Since it was formed 7,000 years ago by a violent volcanic eruption of Mt. Mazama, rain and melting snow have filled the caldera, creating a sapphire-blue lake so clear that sunlight penetrates to a depth of 400ft. Crater Lake is Oregon’s only national park. As we head back towards Grants Pass we stop at the gold rush town of Jacksonville - one of only eight US cities named as a National Historic Landmark. This delightful town is a living museum of the late 1800’s and preserves the look and feel of an Old West pioneer settlement. Later in the day we return to Grants Pass and our hotel.
DAY 7 GRANTS PASS • NEWPORT
Today we have our first chance to enjoy the visual splendours of the magnificent Oregon coastline. North of Coos Bay we enter the dune country of Oregon where mountains of shifting sand make up the largest and most extensive ocean-front dunes in the world. In the afternoon we visit the Sea Lion Caves, home to several hundred Steller sea lions and one of the fewmainland rookeries of these fascinating creatures. This is one of Oregon’s oldest and most visited year round attractions. Late in the afternoon we continue our journey to the picturesque coastal resort of Newport and the Shilo Inn, located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean.
DAY 8 NEWPORT
This morning we are transferred to Newport Harbour and the graceful arches of Yaquina Bay Bridge. As one of the largest ports on the Oregon coast, Newport is renowned for its shrimp and oyster, as well as sport and commercial fishing. A visit to the aquarium is highly recommended. Here you can watch seals and sea otters play in rocky pools while birds soar in North America’s largest walk-through sea bird aviary. Free day to explore.
DAY 9 NEWPORT • PORTLAND
This morning we take a coastal excursion north which includes Lincoln City, Cape Foulweather - named by Captain Cook, the small town of Otter Rock and the churning waters at Devil’s Punchbowl State Park. We head inland to Oregon’s largest city, Portland, located at the confluence of the mighty Columbia and Willamette rivers. We take a brief orientation tour of the city before checking into the Red Lion hotel or Courtyard by Marriott.

Today we are acquainted with the 1.1 million acre Mt. Hood National Forest and the brilliant waterfalls that tumble from the glaciers and snowfields of the 11,235ft high majestic Mt. Hood. Experience the spectacular views of the Columbia River Gorge and the many historical sites in the area before returning to Portland.
DAY 11 PORTLAND • SEATTLE
Today we head northwards into Washington State. Our first stop this morning is the Mount St. Helens Visitor Centre. From here (weather permitting) we can view the famed mountain that erupted with such devastating consequences in 1980. Scientists advise that intermittent eruptions are possible for several decades and consequently keep a watchful eye on the volcano. We continue north to Seattle where we take a brief orientation tour before checking into the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
