Itinerary
Itinerary
Day 1 - Once on your weekend holiday coach relax and enjoy the scenery and with ample refreshment stops on the way to our hotel to arrive late afternoon. Breakfast & dinner included.
Days 2 & 3 At leisure with 2 included excursions.
Medieval Chester
Chester boasts the original city walls, a complete circuit of walls (sections of which date back to Roman times) that ring its picturesque shopping streets and Norman Cathedral.
Visit the Phoenix Tower also known as the King Charles Tower to commemorate the events of September 1645, when, during the English Civil War, King Charles I stood on the roof and witnessed the rout of his army by Parliamentary forces after the battle of Rowton Moor. You have a complete free day to explore the city at leisure.
Tour the Peak District
Buxton – has a long history as a spa town due to its geothermal spring. Fine Georgian architecture, the Victorian splendour of the beautiful Pavillion gardens and Buxton Opera house – one of Britain’s leading provincial theatres make the town great for exploring. Onto Bakewell – situated on the river Wye has attractive courtyards, independent shops and cafés.
The famous Bakewell tart came about by mistake, when the cook at what is now the Rutland Arms Hotel was making a strawberry tart with a rich egg pastry. She assembled the ingredients incorrectly and poured the egg mixture on top of the strawberry jam, ending up with a barely set gelatinous pudding.
Bakewell's three pudding shops all claim to possess the original (and supposedly secret) recipe! After some free time a short drive to Eyam a small historic village which is famously known as the 'plague village'. During the Plague or 'Black Death' during the middle ages, a piece of material was carried from London to the Eyam tailor which brought the deadly disease with it.
The village was quarantined and it's fascinating story has lived on through centuries... our August tour should catch the famous Well Dressing here.
Day 4 – This morning your homeward journey starts and with comfort breaks en route arrival back at interchange will be mid afternoon.
