Itinerary
DAYS 1-2 Departure & travel to overnight hotel in Denmark: A morning departure to Harwich for our leisurely overnight crossing to Esbjerg in Denmark with breakfast included. We arrive early afternoon and upon disembarkation, travel north to our overnight hotel in Aarlborg, Denmark arriving in time for dinner.
DAY 3 Travel to Vradal: This morning we have some free time to explore Esbjerg before heading to the northern port of Hirtshals and boarding the fast ferry across the Skagerrak Sea to Larvik. You will immediately be surrounded by the magnificent Norwegian scenery as we travel on to our lovely hotel in Vradal, where we stay for the next 2 nights.
DAY 4 Telemark Tour, Vermork World War 2 site & Heddal Stave Church: Explore the Telemark region with a circular tour taking in the impressive Hardangervidda Plateau, home to the largest stock of reindeer. We then travel onto the World War II site at Vermork where we visit the Industrial Workers Museum which tells the fascinating story of the successful mission to prevent the Nazi's from winning the atomic race and developing 'the bomb'. During our museum visit we are treated to a film presentational and lunch. We then visit a traditional Stave Church in Heddal which is the Largest in Norway.
DAY 5 Travel to Sognefjord: We take a scenic journey, travelling north through to the heart of the Fjordland and on to the family run Leikanger Hotel, situated on the stunning Sognefjord, where we will stay for the next four nights.
DAYS 6-8 At leisure in Leikanger with two included excursions and one optional* excursion.
Sognefjord Scenic Tour and the Jostelbreen Glacier Museum: Today is a full circular route travelling along the Sognefjord before heading northwards via the Gaulerfell Pass to stop off at Skei and a visit to the famous Christmas Shop. We continue on to the Jostelbreen Glacier Museum where you will have time to enjoy the visitors centre as well as getting see the glacier up close with an awe inspiring ferry trip. We finish the day by travelling along the Sognefjord back to your hotel.
‘Norway in a Nutshell’ tour including cruise to Gudvangen and journey on Flam Railway: Another full dayexcursion experiencing the 'Norway in a Nutshell' tour. Starting with a cruise from Kaupanger to Gudvangen, you will then enjoy the Flam Railway taking you up to Myrdal on one of the world's steepest railway lines on normal gauge. The day ends with you returning to Leikanger via a stop off at the Stave Church in Vik for another photo opportunity.
At leisure with optional excursion to Bergen: This is a free day to explore the local area and enjoy the hotel facilities and tranquil fjord side location. An optional excursion is possible directly from the hotel to Bergen via the high speed ferry linkgiving the chance to see this beautiful sea port, which is the main city in this region.
DAY 9 Travel to overnight hotel in Kristiansand: We depart Leikanger early morning and to travel southwards through some of the most spectacular scenery the country has to offer, arriving to our hotel in Kristiansand.
DAY 10 & LAST DAY Travel to overnight hotel and travel home: This morning we bid a final farewell to Norway sailing to Hirtshals in Denmark, before making our way back on the overnight ferry from Ejsberg to Harwich with breakfast included. We arrive back into the UK for our final journey home.

The 3rd generation family owned Leikanger Fjord Hotel is situated in a beautiful region in a small hamlet in the heart of the Sognefjord. It is an excellent base from which to discover this part of Norway. The hotel offers 50 rooms with a scenic view, satellite television, and a personal touch in a unique atmosphere. (please note that there are no lifts or ground floor rooms available at this particular hotel)
Quality Straand Hotel, Telemark
The 5th generation family owned Quality Straand Hotel has 125 rooms, 2 restaurants, 2 bars, swimming pool, terrace and an old style drawing room. In addition the hotel features its own horse centre, a veteran boat for sightseeing and an activity area by the lake. All en suite rooms have a hairdryer, twin or double beds, desk, chair or sofa, TV, minibar and telephone.
