Itinerary
DAY 1 Departure: A morning departure stopping for lunch and sightseeing in the famous old city of Winchester en route to our resort hotel.
DAYS 2-4 At leisure in Bournemouth with three included excursions. With seven miles of golden sands and sparkling sea, the vibrant town of Bournemouth has it all: shops, restaurants, attractions and endless countryside with beautiful awardwinning gardens and beaches.
The Blue Pool, Swanage with optional* train ride to Corfe Castle: Today we visit The Blue Pool, Swanage and Corfe Castle.We travel to the Blue Pool, set in 25 acres of heath woodland and gorse interlaced with sandy paths. The Blue Pool constantly varies in colour. Very fine clay in suspension in the water diffracting light in different ways producing a spectrum of colour (admission included).We then continue onto Swanage where you have free time or you will have the opportunity to take an optional ride on the preserved Swanage Railway to Corfe Castle (summer only).
Highcliffe Castle & Christchurch: We first visit Highcliffe Castle (Admission into the castle/visitor centre is not included). Highcliffe Castle is a grade 1 listed building built between 1831 and 1835. Access the coastal path from the castle grounds or take the zig zag path down to the beach. This afternoon we visit the historic town of Christchurch.
New Forest: Today we will go to the picturesque New Forest visiting towns and villages typical of the area such as Burley, one of the prettiest New Forest villages and home to the New Forest Cider Farm.We continue from here to Lyndhurst in time for lunch. The village of Lyndhurst, “Capital” of the New Forest was established as a royal hunting ground by William the Conqueror and offers among other things a museum in the New Forest visitor centre, shops, and the grave of the original Alice in Wonderland (Alice Liddell, later Hargreaves) in the churchyard. This afternoon we continue our New Forest tour and visit Brockenhurst, the place where the North and South Weirs streams join. Our last visit of the day is Beaulieu, home to the National Motor Museum, you have a short while at leisure to explore the village before returning to the hotel.
LAST DAY Travel home via Salisbury: We depart for home stopping for lunch and sightseeing in Salisbury which boasts one of the tallest cathedral spires in the country, arriving home during the evening.
