Arizonans know how lucky they are to live in such a diverse state with an array of huge natural wonders and have rightly shown off this fact by naming Arizona the Grand Canyon State. Of course our holiday gives you the opportunity to view the canyon from both the south and east rims with the chance of a spectacular sightseeing tour by air, but on our trail of exploration you will also see so much more, from the relaxed atmosphere of the artist colony of Sedona and views of an ancient petrified forest to the striking sandstone pillars at Monument Valley and the Old Wild West of Tombstone. The great conclusion to our adventure in the Wild West is a three night stay in the city of Tucson, where you have time to relax in the sun or to explore as you wish.

DAY 3 SCOTTSDALE • SEDONA • GRAND CANYON
Enjoy the change of scenery as we travel north towards the beautiful red rock formations of Sedona. We take time here to explore before continuing past Oak Creek Canyon and the Ponderosa stands of Flagstaff for our first glimpse of the Grand Canyon. The views that the south rim provide are truly wonderful and it is easy to see why it is considered to be one of the wonders of the world. This evening we stay at the Best Western Squire Inn, located close to the entrance of the park.
DAY 4 GRAND CANYON • LAKE POWELL
This morning you have the opportunity to take a fabulous fixed wing or helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon, before you travel along the rim to Desert View for arguably one of the most expansive views of this massive canyon. Continuing through Cameron we visit the Glen Canyon Dam, whose construction created Lake Powell, the second largest man made lake in America. The dam used nearly five million cubic yards of concrete and took seven controversial years to complete as a result of the ancient Native American sites and natural formations which were permanently flooded by the resulting 186 mile long lake, which took over fifteen years to fill. We stay at the Best Western in nearby Page for two nights.
DAY 5 LAKE POWELL
We take a scenic cruise on Lake Powell to Navajo Canyon and view the majestic deposits creating an appearance of a tapestry on the canyon walls. Along the way you will be afforded grand views of the Navajo Arch and Tower Butte. The afternoon is free to relax and enjoy the surrounds of your hotel.
DAY 6 LAKE POWELL • MONUMENT VALLEY
We depart for Monument Valley this morning and on arrival take a fascinating jeep tour of these striking Monoliths with a knowledgeable Native American guide. Monument Valley has been the backdrop to so many of the most famous “Westerns” over the years that is has become synonymous with the image of the old Wild West. This evening we stay at Gouldings Lodge.
DAY 7 CANYON DE CHELLY • PETRIFIED FOREST
A long but rewarding day as we visit Canyon De Chelly, where ancient homes of the Puebloans, Hopi and Navajo people amazingly still remain. We tour the upper rim of the canyon where we can view many of these sites from our vantage points, up to 1,000 feet above. We continue to Petrified Forest National Park to take a scenic drive past the fossilised remains of an ancient forest. This evening we overnight at the Best Western Arizonian Inn at Holbrook.
DAY 8 SALT RIVER CANYON • TUCSON
We depart this morning and head south through the White Mountain region for some excellent views of the Salt River Canyon as our route snakes to the bottom to cross the Salt River and here you will see why some call this the “mini” Grand Canyon. We continue to Globe for lunch before visiting the 320-acre Boyce Thompson Arboretum, founded by a mining magnate whose vision of a park set in a spectacular location was realised in the 1920s and is still an extremely popular location today. Later, the final leg of our journey today takes us to Tucson where we stay for three nights at the Doubletree Hotel.
DAY 9 BISBEE • TOMBSTONE
Our first stop today is at the copper mining town of Bisbee, close to the Mexican border, where we visit the mining and historical museum, which clearly illustrates the extreme conditions that were worked in and the wealth that was extracted. We continue to notorious Tombstone where some real Wild West action took place and visit the OK Corral, where Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday amongst others had their famous gunfight in 1881, which, in true American fashion, is re-enacted daily. After taking time to enjoy this old west town we visit Boothill Cemetery before returning to our hotel in Tucson.
