INCLUDED EXCURSIONS
Saturday - Westward Ho!, Appledore & Bideford
A short drive to the coast for a scenic stop at wonderful Westward Ho! - the only place name in the British Isles to have an exclamation mark. Enjoy a breath of fresh air and the lovely views of the impressive beach before continuing to the quaint fishing village of Appledore with its independent shops, cafes and galleries. Situated at the confluence of the Taw and Torridge rivers, charming Appledore is characterised by its colourful houses and maze of winding narrow streets leading to the quayside at its very heart. After time to explore, continue onto the ancient market town of Bideford. Here you might take a gentle stroll along the riverside, visit the excellent Burton Art Gallery & Museum (entry FOC) or walk up the hill to the historic Pannier Market (open 09.00 - 16.00 every Saturday). Return to the hotel in the coach or if you prefer stay on in Bideford and return at your leisure. There is a frequent public bus service which stops at the hotel or walking takes approximately 20 - 30 minutes.
Sunday - Ifracombe
Ilfracombe is a real jewel on the North Devon coastline, lying within the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Known for its many fine beaches, from secluded coves to wide stretches of golden sand, this pretty seaside town with its elegant town houses and promenade evokes nostalgia of a bygone era. It also has a more modern, edgier side town with its foody cafes and lively bars and controversial Damien Hirst statue. Time to explore at leisure
MONDAY - After breakfast, we return homewards, arriving back at your local joining points early evening.
