Itinerary
DAY 1 LONDON • JOHANNESBURG
We begin with Titan’s VIP Home Departure Service™ to London Heathrow Airport and our direct scheduled South African Airways flight to Johannesburg. During the flight you can relax and enjoy the meals, free bar service and in-flight entertainment.

DAY 2 JOHANNESBURG • PRETORIA
Morning arrival in Johannesburg and a short orientation tour of this city and the nation’s capital, Pretoria, before transferring to the Irene Country Lodge.

DAY 3 PRETORIA • HAZYVIEW
Our day begins as we journey through an area of fine gardens and residential homes to our first experience of the big skies and wide open spaces of Africa. We travel east towards Belfast, Dullstroom and Lydenburg in a fascinating mixture of forest, rocky outcrops and open plains. We climb through mountain passes, with magnificent vistas on either side and over the old stone bridge to Pilgrims Rest. The character of this 19th century gold rush town with its main street of treeshaded functional wood plank buildings has been lovingly maintained. After lunch we continue to the Hazyview Hotel, where we enjoy dinner this evening.

DAY 4 HAZYVIEW • MALA MALA
We travel to Skukuza for one of the greatest experiences that the African continent has to offer. We are met by rangers from Mala Mala Game Reserve and are transferred by open top jeep to the famous lodge set deep in the African bush. Accommodation is in luxurious African-style rondavels, each containing a bedroom and two bathrooms. After a leisurely lunch we can relax, with the likelihood of spotting monkey or stately giraffe striding close to our windows, or stroll through the grounds before taking tea on the terrace and departing on our first game drive. Transport is in open-top jeep, expertly handled by our game ranger and his tracker at the back. The animals have grown accustomed to the daily drives and you can expect close proximity to lions and others of the big cat family, as well as elephant and rhino. As the sun sets, our ranger selects a suitable spot for us to enjoy a ‘sundowner’ before setting out once again in the dark for nocturnal game viewing with the aid of spotlights. We return to the lodge for dinner in an enclosed kraal.

DAY 5 MALA MALA
Today we depart for an early morning game drive. At this time of the day the bush offers a totally different experience and, if we are lucky, we may be able to spot the elusive leopard or cheetah. We return to the lodge for breakfast, after which you have time at leisure to relax in the comfort of the lodge, or an optional walking safari can be arranged. After lunch we set off for an afternoon game drive and return to the lodge in time for dinner.

DAY 6 MALA MALA • HAZYVIEW
An early morning start, with coffee and biscuits on the terrace for another wonderful experience in the bush after which we return to the lodge for breakfast. Later in the morning we drive back through the Kruger National Park to our accommodation for the evening at The Hazyview Hotel where we have dinner.

DAY 7 HAZYVIEW • ULUNDI
Today we journey southwards, through scenery changing from rolling hills to open plains, forests and sugar cane plantations. During the morning we have a short coffee stop and then continue on to Piet Retief. In the afternoon, via Vryheid, in the broad valley at the foot of Zungwin Mountain, we enter Zululand and pass forests, grazing cattle and farms before arriving at the Garden Court, Ulundi, our hotel for the next two nights. This evening a special treat awaits as the hotel has arranged a traditional barbecue (braai) with Zulu dancing and singing.

DAY 8 ULUNDI
The Garden Court has a delightful pool and pleasant grounds where, you are free to relax in this elegant oasis. This afternoon we drive the short distance to Umfolozi for a tour of the Game Reserve before returning to our hotel for dinner.

DAY 9 ULUNDI • DURBAN
We visit the impressive Zulu parliament for an escorted tour of the building after which we visit the Ulundi Battle Site Memorial. We depart for Eshowe along one of the most spectacular routes in this remarkably scenic country. We pass through sugar cane plantations, green rolling hills and Zulu villages and our curving mountain road takes us high above the plains for breathtaking views. Eshowe takes its name from the sound made by the breezes through the forest trees. Before our lunchtime break in this charming town, we visit the 160 hectare nature reserve whose peaceful beauty encompasses lovely walks, waterfalls, bird life and small game species. On to Durban, via the coastal route, to our hotel for the next two nights, the Southern Sun Elangeni, arguably one of the best situated hotels in Durban, overlooking the sandy beach, washed by the Indian Ocean and a favourite with surfers. This is an ideal spot in which to relax, stroll along the delightful promenade or explore the city of Durban.

DAY 10 DURBAN
A day at leisure to relax and take advantage of the excellent facilities the hotel has to offer including two swimming pools. Alternatively you may wish to visit the traditional Indian market, an opportunity to haggle for oriental spices, curios, ornaments and fabrics. The African Arts Centre in the Guild Hall arcade is a show case for Zulu woodcarvings, basket-work, ceramics and stone carvings.

DAY 11 DURBAN • PORT ELIZABETH
An early breakfast before transferring to Durban Airport for our flight to Port Elizabeth. On arrival we have arranged a brief orientation tour of this historic city. Port Elizabeth boasts some of the finest architectural attractions in the country, being strongly influenced by the Europeans who settled here in 1820. The area has a rich and colourful past, the indigenous population of the Xhosa people perpetuate the tradition and culture through performance of song and dance and the making of woven baskets, pottery, crafts and curios, which are readily available in local markets and shops. We check into the Protea Marine hotel.

DAY 12 PORT ELIZABETH • WILDERNESS
Our journey commences along the beautiful Garden Route with the first stop being at Storms River to see the dramatic chasm overlooked by the imposing Tsitsikamma Mountain Range, before continuing to the Tsitsikamma Coastal Reserve and Storms River Bay with surrounding indigenous forests and spectacular rocky coastline. Later in the day we arrive at our hotel, the Protea Wilderness or Knysna Quays where we spend the next four nights.

DAY 13 GEORGE • KNYSNA
This morning we transfer to George to board the Outeniqua Power Van into the mountains. As you travel along one of the most scenic routes in South Africa you will experience a variety of flora and fauna. We disembark with a chance to stretch our legs and explore George railway museum before departing for Knysna to board the John Benn for a cruise on the lagoon with lunch served on board. In the afternoon there is an opportunity to explore Knysna, a popular holiday resort. We return to our hotel in the evening.

DAY 14 OUDTSHOORN
As we journey north over the Outeniqua Mountain range to Oudtshoorn we arrive at the Cango Caves situated in the Black Mountains, where we enjoy a conducted tour through a series of magnificent subterranean caverns with fascinating rock formations on all sides. We proceed to the Cango Wildlife Ranch and Cheetahland. There are over 300 crocodiles and in Cheetahland the species include lion, jaguar, cougar and the cheetah itself. We have a late lunch at Highgate or Safari Ostrich Farm before touring the farm with an opportunity to meet these fascinating birds and see an ostrich race. After a long but satisfying day we return to our hotel.

DAY 15 WILDERNESS
Wilderness is an area of natural beauty and after breakfast you are free to enjoy this idyllic setting, savour the purity of the air and review the wonderful sights already experienced on the tour. Choose to relax by the pool or wander through the natural surroundings of your hotel with lush gardens and a profusion of sub-tropical plants.

DAY 16 WILDERNESS • CAPE TOWN
This morning we continue along the scenic Garden Route, celebrated for its flowers, angling, golfing and fine beaches, to Swellendam, an early Dutch settlement occupying a scenically superb position in the Breede Valley at the foot of the Langeburg Range where the four conspicuous peaks, known as the Ten O’clock, Eleven O’clock, Twelve O’clock and One O’clock, form natural sundials by which early farmers told the time. We rejoin the coast at Hermanus, where whales may be seen during the months of September to November (not guaranteed) and follow the coastal route via Betty and Gordon’s Bays to Cape Town. Here we stay at The Victoria and Alfred Hotel for the next three nights located within the V & A Waterfront.
