Description

Lake Maggiore (or Verbano) is the second largest among Italian lakes with over 100 miles of coastline. Particularly favoured by a mild climate Lake Maggiore is a highly sought-after tourist destination.

Itinerary

Day 1 Departure
A morning departure to Dover and our ferry crossing to Calais. We then continue through France to our chosen overnight hotel.

Day 2 Travel to Lake Maggiore
Enjoy a scenic drive today through Switzerland and the Gotthard Tunnel before we enter Italy. We then make our way to our chosen hotel.

Days 3-7 At leisure
At leisure in Stresa with two included excursions and three optional excursions.

The international tourist resort of Stresa is situated in a central, panoramic and picturesque position along the lakeside and faces the Borromean isles. It is a renowned holiday resort as well as an important seat of culture. Stresa’s position on the lake makes for wonderful sightseeing.

Included Excursion
Full Day Lake tour A full day included Lakes Tour. A scenic tour highlighting the unspoilt natural beauty of the lakes region, in particular Lake Maggiore and Lake Como. As a break for relaxation you could take advantage of an optional lake cruise on Lake Como, with a tour of the lake and its famous villas, stopping at Bellagio on the other side of the lake for free time before returning to Tremmezzo to re-join the coach.

Included Excursion
Half Day Lake Orta A half day included excursion visiting the delightful Lake Orta, situated in the foothills of the Alps. Although the lake is much smaller than Lake Maggiore, it is equally attractive and well worth a visit.

Optional Excursion
Full Day Boat trip to Isola Bella An optional boat trip to Isola Bella, the best known of the renowned Borromean Islands, including entrance and a guided tour of the Palace. We also visit Isola Pescatore, Fishermen’s Island, on a private boat, and finally visit Baveno, a small beautiful town for free time.

Optional Excursion
Half Day Anzasca Valley An optional half day excursion to the Anzasca Valley, and the picturesque Alpine resort of Macugnaga, from where you will enjoy spectacular views of the nearby Mount Rosa.

Optional Excursion
Full Day Centovalli Railway An optional full day excursion featuring the Centovalli Railway. This super excursion features a scenic railway journey across ‘a hundred valleys’, through remote hillside villages and over high bridges to the Swiss resort of Locarno. We then return to Baveno by boat.

Day 8 Travel to overnight hotel
Leaving the Italian Lakeland, we retrace our route through the heart of Alpine Switzerland, past William Tell’s Altdorf and travel to our chosen overnight hotel.

Last Day Travel home
We depart for Calais and our ferry crossing to Dover, arriving home during the evening.

Hotel Milan Speranza, Stresa
We stay for 6 nights at the Hotel Milan Speranza, which comprises of two buildings located side by side in the centre of Stresa, offering a superb position overlooking the Lake. The facilities include a bar, restaurant & lift in both buildings. All bedrooms are en suite with air conditioning, hairdryer, TV & telephone.
