Itinerary
Day 1 Departure & travel to overnight hotel
A morning departure to Dover and our ferry crossing to Calais. We continue through France to our overnight hotel.
Day 2 Travel to Salzkammergut
We continue through Germany en-route for the Austrian border. We drive through pleasant Austrian countryside to our resort of St Georgen for our 6 night stay.
Days 3-7 At leisure
At leisure in St. Georgen, with two included and three optional excursions.
Included Excursion
Full Day Salzkammergut, Mondsee, St Gilgen A full day included excursion around the Lake District, known locally as the Salzkammergut. Our first port of call is Mondsee, a beautiful village by the shore of a crystal-clear lake surrounded by lush forests. It’s then on to St Gilgen, a village that was a source of inspiration for Mozart. Our final visit of the day is to St Wolfgang, yet another picture-postcard village.
Included Excursion
Full Day Salzburg (with optional walking tour) A full day included excursion to Salzburg, one of Europe’s most enchanting cities. Famous as the birthplace of Mozart and the setting for “The Sound of Music”. It is also a charming Baroque city in its own right, dominated by church steeples, quaint courtyards and magnificent buildings. There will be the opportunity to join us on an optional guided city walking tour.
Optional Excursion
Half Day Hallstatt An optional excursion to picture-postcard Hallstatt on the banks of the Halstättersee, a photographer’s dream. You will also have the opportunity to do an optional boat cruise on the lake.
Optional Excursion
Full Day Lake Attersee An optional tour firstly by train to Attersee village and then by boat on Lake Attersee (subject to availability).
Optional Excursion
Full Day Berchtesgaden & Eagle’s Nest An optional excursion to Berchtesgaden and the Eagle’s Nest. Berchtesgaden’s ancient prosperity is based on its salt mines; this well-known resort town is the starting point for exploring some of Germany’s most delectable Alpine scenery, in the Berchtesgaden National Park. Visitors can descend into the depths of the old salt mines and take a boat across an underground lake. Take a bus up the mountain road and then ascend by lift, through the rock, to the tip of the Kehlstein, the site of Adolf Hitler’s infamous Eagle’s Nest, designed as a birthday present for the dictator. (Please Note: Entrance fees are not included).
Day 8 Travel to overnight hotel
Today we begin our return journey crossing through Germany to our chosen overnight hotel.
Last day Travel home
We depart for Calais and our ferry crossing to Dover, arriving home during the evening.
