A spectacular Austrian holiday combining the very best that Tyrolean Austria has to offer. A highlight is a visit to the Grossglockner Pass, an inspiring journey.
Itinerary
Day 1 Departure
A morning departure to Dover and our ferry crossing to Calais. We then continue through France to our overnight hotel.
Day 2 Travel to Tyrol
We leave France crossing into Germany, then into Austria and get our first sight of the Alpine scenery. We arrive at our superb holiday base in the Tyrol.
Days 3 – 5 At leisure
At leisure in Kirchberg with two included excursions. The tranquil holiday village of Kirchberg is situated in the Brixen Valley, nestling among the Kitzbühel Alps and just four miles away from the world-famous town of Kitzbühel. The imposing church on the mountain in the middle of the village contributes to its wonderful village character. To the south, the Sperten Valley stretches as far as the idyllic little village of Aschau with its wonderful nature reserve. The highly diverse scenery and charming Tyrolean hospitality will entrance you.
Included Excursion
Full Day Zell am See & Grossglockner A full day included excursion of spectacular scenery. We take the scenic ride to Zell am See, one of the most scenic and well-loved ‘lakes and mountains’ resorts in Austria. Beautifully located, directly on the shores of the Zeller lake, Zell lies next to the Hohe Tauern National Park and the magnificent Grossglockner mountain region. The centre of Zell is pedestrianised with pretty, flower-decked street cafés and shops to rest at or browse in. We have time here in one of Austria’s best- loved resorts. We leave Zell to drive the spectacular journey to the highest point by road of the Grossglockner, the highest mountain in Austria, and after Mont Blanc, the second most prominent mountain in the Alps. The Grossglockner is considered one of the main tourist attractions in Austria.
Included Excursion
Full Day Mayrhofen with optional train ride A full day included excursion takes us to Mayrhofen, a pretty village at the head of the Ziller Valley. We have some free time in Mayrhofen – maybe have lunch in one of the pavement cafés or wood-panelled bars (not included). There will be an opportunity for an optional train ride on the narrow-gauge railway operating between Flugen and Mayrhofen. You will also have the chance to take an optional visit to a local dairy here. We return over the Gerlos Pass, pausing at the Krimml Waterfalls (Please Note: There will be some walking involved if you wish to get close).
Day 6 Travel to overnight hotel
We depart after breakfast and cross into Germany, making our way to our overnight hotel.
Last day Travel home
We depart for Calais and our ferry crossing to Dover, arriving home during the evening.
