Description
In the North-East of Germany, known locally as Mecklenburg Vorpommern, the area consists of over 160 miles of coastline, two ancient Hanseatic cities, eight resorts on the Baltic Sea, beautiful countryside and even an island.
Itinerary
Day 1 Departure
A morning departure to Dover and our ferry crossing to Calais. We then continue through France and into Germany for our overnight hotel.
Day 2 Travel to Stralsund via Hameln
We travel over the North German Plain calling in at Hameln where you will have the opportunity to join an optional walking tour taking in all the major sights, followed by free time. Afterwards we continue through Mecklenburg Vorpommern and to our resort of Stralsund.
Days 3-5 At leisure
At leisure in the Hanseatic City of Stralsund, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with two included and one optional excursion.
Included Excursion
Full Day Bad Doberan & Rostock A full day included excursion takes you to Bad Doberan, which is famous for its Minster and Molli Train. You will have an included guided tour of the Minster, followed by an included train ride on the Molli vintage stream train from Bad Doberan to Kühlungsborn. Here you will have free time or you can take an optional road train for a tour of the resort. In the afternoon we make our way to Rostock, the largest town of the region. Here you will be offered an optional city tour.
Included Excursion
Full Day Rügen Island A full day included excursion to Rügen Island, with its unique landscape. Our first visit will be to Ralswiek to see the famous large open air stage theatre. From here we will continue to the Jasmund National Park, with a visit to the Königsstuhl visitor centre (entrance is not included) and an opportunity to see the white chalk cliffs, one not to be missed. Our journey will then take us on to Sassnitz, a very attractive sea port. Also home to the H.M.S OTUS submarine, which was used in the Cold War, where you will have the opportunity to visit the submarine (entrance not included). We then move on to the hunting lodge of Granitz built in the 1800’s for Prince Wilhelm 1 (entrance included). It’s then on to Sellin to see the famous pier which is 400 metres long. Our final stop of the day will be to see the white town of Putbus.
Optional Excursion
Half Day Stralsund walking tour An optional walking tour of Stralsund, visiting many of the historical buildings that make the city so famous. The tour will also include a cruise around the harbour.
Day 6 Travel to overnight hotel
We travel into France to our final overnight hotel.
Last Day Travel home
We depart for Calais and our ferry crossing to Dover, arriving home during the evening.
