Itinerary
Day 1 Departure
A morning departure to Dover and our ferry crossing to Calais. We then continue through Northern France and Belgium and on to St Goarshausen for a late arrival. (Please Note: There is no dinner on day 1).
Days 2–6 At leisure
At leisure in St Goarshausen with three included and two optional excursions.
Included Excursion
Full Day Wiesbaden A full day included excursion to Wiesbaden. The city has an illustrious history as a health resort due to its hot springs. Wiesbaden’s focal point and main landmarks are the spa assembly rooms and elegant casino, built in 1907 under the aegis of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Other highlights are the Hessian State Theatre, the historic old quarter with the palace, the old and the new town hall and the neo-Gothic Market Church. The glorious architecture of the Wilhelminian era, lush parks and gardens are prominent features of this elegant city on the Rhine. Here we offer an optional city tour.
Included Excursion
Full Day Moselle Valley Tour A full day included Moselle Valley Tour where we cross the Rhine by ferry and drive through the wooded Hunsrück Hills to the famous wine town of Bernkastel-Kues. In the afternoon we follow the Moselle downstream as it winds past pretty little villages to picturesque Cochem. During the day we also have an optional Wine Tasting Visit, to the famous wine cellars of Anton Hammes in the village of Alken. We return by way of Koblenz, famed for its mighty Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.
Included Excursion
Half Day Rhine Valley boat cruise A half day included excursion by boat, which is by far the best way to admire the Rhine Valley. Today we sail to Boppard where the Celts, Romans and Franconians have all left their mark on the 2000 year-old history of the town and at every turn there is witness in stone of their presence. After time here we return to St. Goar and St. Goarshausen.
Optional Excursion
Full Day Königswinter An optional excursion to the riverside town of Königswinter. A small cog railway runs up from the village to the famous Drachenfels (Dragon’s Rock) ruin, perched high above the Rhine and offering superb views of the river and Nonnenworth Island. Weather permitting, a chance to take an optional ride on the Cog Railway.
Optional Excursion
Full Day Cruise to Rüdesheim An optional River Cruise to Rüdesheim. Where better to view this land of legends, cosy riverside wine villages and romantic hilltop castles than from the deck of a Rhine cruiser passing en-route through the spectacular Rhine Gorge and the infamous Loreley? We cruise to the liveliest of the Rhineland resorts, Rüdesheim. Here you can visit the 16th. Century Drosselgasse, packed with wine bars and traditional German music.
Last Day Travel home
We depart for Calais and our ferry crossing to Dover, arriving home during the evening.
