Description
After a successful introductory year, we are again pleased to offer this holiday, staying in Rüdesheim, visiting some of Germany’s more romantic cities. We hope you have some sparkling moments there.
Itinerary
Day 1 Departure
A morning departure to Dover and our ferry crossing to Calais. We then continue through Northern France and Belgium into Germany and head for the River Rhine and the beautiful town of Rüdesheim. (Please Note: There is no dinner on day 1).
Days 2-4 At leisure
Spend your days at leisure in Rüdesheim with two included excursions to some of Germany’s romantic cities. Nature and history have left a rich heritage here in the wine-growing Rheingau region whose origins date back to pre-Roman times. The inescapable romance of the Rhine, the historic places and ancient castles, excellent Riesling and Pinot Noir wines, together with Rüdesheim’s famous hospitality and conviviality, give the town a very distinctive atmosphere.
Included Excursion
Full Day Heidelberg A full day included excursion to Heidelberg. Heidelberg lies on the River Neckar and is dominated by the castle which has a mix of styles from Gothic to Renaissance. Heidelberg is also a shopping magnet for the surrounding smaller towns with its famous long Hauptstrasse. You may still be able to see the original American World War II headquarters, as this city was one of the main bases for the American Forces.
Included Excursion
Full Day Mainz and Speyer A full day included excursion to Mainz and Speyer. Mainz is the charming capital of Rhineland-Palatinate. Directly on the Rhine, the city is full of lovely parks and has a beautiful town square. It is the centre for wine culture and is a cultural centre for cutting-edge performing arts. The half-timbered houses in the city are complemented by Baroque and Gothic architecture and wandering on foot is easy. There are many shops and also a large open market run three days a week. We travel back in the afternoon to Speyer, which is located along the banks of the Rhine, about an hour’s drive from Frankfurt. Speyer is the home of an 11th. Century Imperial Cathedral, which, in its crypts, holds the final burial places of some of the most important people of German history, including Emperors and Kings as well as several Bishops. The town also consists of many other beautiful buildings and houses, with shops for you to visit.
Last Day Travel Home
We depart for Calais and our ferry crossing to Dover, arriving home during the evening.
