Itinerary
DAY 1 LONDON • MARSEILLE • AVIGNON
We begin with Titan HiTours VIP Home Departure Service™™ to Gatwick Airport for your direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Marseille. On arrival we drive to Avignon and the Grand Hotel Avignon, where we stay for the next four nights with dinner included this evening.
DAY 2 CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE •
This morning we travel to Châteauneuf-Du-Pape for a wine tasting at a local winery, after which you will have some free time for lunch and exploration. This afternoon you are at leisure in Avignon.
DAY 3 GLANUM • ST REMY
Today our first stop is the Roman city of Glanum where we will have a guided tour of the ancient remains and relics and the Triumphal Arch. Van Gogh produced more than 150 paintings in nearby St. Rémy, including the famous Irises. We then continue to Arles where Van Gogh painted his celebrated Sunflowers series. The shaded squares, fine buildings and winding streets also made it a favourite with Picasso.
DAY 4 PROVENCAL VILLAGES
Today we take a drive through one of the ‘lavender routes’, which is dotted with picturesque Provençal villages. We will visit just a few, including the hilltop town of Gordes with its winding alleys and Cistercian Abbey.
DAY 5 AVIGNON • AIX-EN-PROVENCE • NICE
This morning we depart for Aix-en-Provence, famous as the birthplace of Paul Cézanne, and we have included a visit to Atelier Cézanne where you can view some of the artist’s belongings in his studio. After lunch we follow part of the ‘Cézanne route’to Nice, which passes some of his favourite haunts, and arrive at the Holiday Inn.
DAY 6 GRASSE • ANTIBES • ST PAUL
We leave Nice for the perfume town of Grasse where you will have a guided tour of the Fragonard Perfumery before we travel to Antibes for lunch and free time. In the immediate post-war years Antibes saw an influx of artists, including Pablo Picasso, and you may choose to see the large collection of masterpieces he bestowed on this harbour town that is housed in the Picasso Museum. We dine this evening at a local restaurant in Nice.
DAY 7 NICE
You are at leisure today to enjoy a stroll along the Promenade des Anglais, situated a short walk from your hotel or perhaps the Cours Saleya, a lively local market.
