Description
Halifax • Sydney • Corner Brook • St Anthony • Iceberg Alley • Rocky Harbour • Bonne Bay • Grand Falls • Gander • Clarenville • St John's

Newfoundland and Nova Scotia are at the most northeastern edge of the North American continent, influenced by the sea and descendant from the English, Irish and Scottish. It is a cultural experience so different from the rest of Canada and its people are famed for their friendliness. Yet the region can, in winter, be amongst the harshest. Our exciting tour encompasses the best of Canada’s least visited provinces, taking you to places where each year they have as many visitors as Toronto can have in a weekend. The tour commences in Nova Scotia, with two nights in the maritime city of Halifax. Our itinerary includes a historical journey along The Viking Trail, a cruise in Iceberg Alley and a coastal voyage along the rocky shorelines before concluding with a stay in the provincial capital of St John’s.

Itinerary
DAY 1 LONDON • HALIFAX
We begin with Titan HiTours VIP Home Departure Service™® to London Heathrow Airport and your scheduled Air Canada flight direct to Halifax. On arrival our coach transfers us to our hotel for the next two nights, the Lord Nelson.

DAY 2 HALIFAX
Our tour today takes us out along Nova Scotia’s rugged southern coastline to Peggy’s Cove with its famous lighthouse, one of Canada’s most photographed landmarks. We continue to Lunenburg, a town that was settled in 1753 and whose Old Town is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town’s Fisheries of the Atlantic Museum houses an aquarium as well as many floors of exhibits and live demonstrations. We return to Halifax later today where the remainder of the day is free.

DAY 3 HALIFAX • SYDNEY
We depart Halifax for Pictou, the “birthplace of New Scotland”. It was here in 1773 that the first Scottish settlers arrived in Nova Scotia on the ship Hector, a replica of which can be explored in the Heritage Quay. We move on, stopping in Port Hawksbury to view the Canso Causeway before arriving in St Peters, on beautiful Cape Breton Island. Here, we explore the MacAskill Marine Print Museum and meet the MacIsaac Kiltmakers, where we enjoy an entertaining and informative demonstration of traditional kilt making. We then depart for Sydney and our overnight hotel, the Cambridge Suites.

DAY 4 SYDNEY • CORNER BROOK
We leave Nova Scotia behind as we join the ferry service to Newfoundland and our journey to Corner Brook. On arrival we transfer to our hotel for the next two nights, the Glynmill Inn. Corner Brook is the second largest city on the island and the hub of the West Coast, situated at the mouth of the Humber River between the Long Range Mountains and the open sea.

DAY 5 CORNER BROOK • HARBOUR ARM • CORNER BROOK
Captain Cook used Corner Brook as a base when he first charted this part of the Newfoundland coast in 1767. His work was so detailed that many of his charts can still be used by mariners today. On Crow Hill you will find the Captain James Cook Memorial Lookout, providing a panoramic view of Corner Brook and the Bay of Islands area. This morning we head out, following the twisting highway along Humber Arm that in many places had to be blasted out of solid rock. The road ends near Lark Harbour where we have time to stop before heading back to Corner Brook, via Blow Me Down Provincial Park, for some free time.

DAY 6 CORNER BROOK • ST ANTHONY
From Corner Brook we travel to the northern end of the province, via Gros Morne National Park and the Viking Trail. The varied geography and over 4000 years of human habitation has awarded the park the rare accolade of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also within the park is Tablelands, a barren ledge of rock over 80km in length that has been pushed up from deep beneath the ocean floor. From Gros Morne we continue north along the Viking Trail, to our destination for the next two nights, St Anthony and the Vinland Inn.

DAY 7 ST ANTHONY • ICEBERG ALLEY • ST ANTHONY
Today we have included a unique boat tour that takes us out into the coastal waters off St Anthony - Iceberg Alley. Not only does this area hold the largest concentration of icebergs in Newfoundland when in season but it is also the ideal location for whale observation, especially in July. This afternoon we make the short journey north to L’Anse aux Meadows. In traditional Newfoundland low key style this fascinating place is a 1000 year-old Viking settlement and with its waterside setting and unspoilt landscape it looks very much as it would have done when the Vikings first landed. We return later this afternoon to St Anthony where there may be time for you to visit the Grenfell Mission, founded by Dr. Wilfred Grenfell to provide medical services and care to the isolated people of northern Newfoundland and Labrador.

DAY 8 ST. ANTHONY • ROCKY HARBOUR
This morning we make the short journey to Port aux Choix National Historic Site. The one constant denominator for all of the communities that have lived along the Viking Trail, is their dependence on the sea. At Port aux Choix we will learn of the Maritime Archaic Dorset People who lived here long before the Europeans had arrived. This afternoon we retrace our tracks along the Viking Trail to Rocky Harbour. Entering the town via the Cove Head Lighthouse we transfer to our hotel, the Ocean View Hotel.

DAY 9 ROCKY HARBOUR • BOURNE BAY • GRAND FALLS
We are treated today to an included boat cruise in the heart of the stunning Gros Morne National Park. We will witness some of the most overwhelming scenery in the park, so be sure to have your cameras ready. Later this afternoon, we travel to Grand Falls-Windsor and our overnight hotel, the Mount Peyton Hotel.

DAY 10 GRAND FALLS • GANDER
We depart Grand Falls this morning and head out to Twillingate and the Bonavista Bay coastline. Twillingate was once the hub of the lucrative fishing industry in this area of the Notre Dame Bay. The town was so prosperous it produced its own newspaper, the Twillingate Sun, and a championship winning cricket team. On arrival in Gander we transfer to our hotel for the night, Sinbad’s Hotel and Suites. Gander is a town based around a rich aviation history and in World War II it provided a major air link to Europe. Three aircraft from this period have been restored and exhibited around the town as a reminder of the town’s ancestry.

DAY 11 GANDER • CLARENVILLE
From Gander our journey this morning takes us through the Terra Nova National Park before the route continues to Bonavista where John Cabot is reputed to have landed in 1497 and where he first saw the “New found land”. Bonavista’s lighthouse dates from 1843 and has been restored, securing its status as a provincial historic site. We then join The “Discovery Trail” and visit the historic village of Trinity, a fascinating village with the many small buildings along its narrow streets having been restored and renovated and where the first court in North America convened in 1615. Our journey of scenic delights continues to Clarenville and our overnight hotel, St Jude’s.

DAY 12 CLARENVILLE • ST JOHN’S
Our journey across Newfoundland concludes this morning as we arrive in the provincial capital St John’s. We have arranged for a tour that will include the highlights of this fascinating city, such as Signal Hill and Cape Spear. The view alone from the top of Signal Hill is breathtaking and Cabot Tower honours John Cabot’s arrival in 1497. The tower was built in 1900 and a year later Marconi famously received the first transatlantic wireless message. Cape Spear National Historic Site is famous for being the most easterly point of North America with fabulous views of the open Atlantic Ocean. Later this afternoon we transfer to the Delta Hotel located in the heart of Downtown St John’s.

DAY 13 ST JOHN’S • LONDON
Today is free for you to explore at greater depth all that this city has to offer. There may also be the opportunity to join an optional tour to Bay Bulls for an exhilarating marine adventure to view the puffins at Witless Bay Ecological Site, home to over 500,000 Atlantic Puffins. Our return flight is not scheduled to depart until later tonight so there will be time to enjoy one final meal. Our coach will be on hand after dinner to transfer us to St John’s Airport for our scheduled Air Canada flight to London, via Halifax. Or extend your stay - call for details

DAY 14 LONDON
Arrival at London Heathrow where our staff will greet and transfer you to Titan transport for the journey home to your front door.
