Itinerary
Stokesay & Ludlow
Our day begins with an included visit to Stokesay Castle, a survivor of 700 years of border and civil wars and the best fortified manor house in Britain. Please note: There are many, small and uneven stairs throughout castle to negotiate and no lift access. We then continue to the market town of Ludlow for free time this afternoon. The historic town centre, and the imposing 11th-century castle, are situated on a cliff above River Teme, surrounded by the beautiful countryside of south Shropshire and the Welsh Marches.

Welshpool & Railway
Enjoy a visit to the pretty market town of Welshpool. Its main streets are lined with fine Georgian buildings, including an 18th-century cock-fighting ring; it is very rare to find one still standing in Britain. Our day ends with a ride on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway. Built in 1903, the narrow gauge allows for tight curves and steep gradients, enabling the line to follow the contours of the countryside.

Powis Castle
This morning we include entry to Powis Castle, built in the 13th century as a medieval fortress and occupied by the Herbert family since the 1570s. Witness world-class paintings, furniture, tapestries, and the unique Clive Collection of South Asian objects. The famous gardens are also worth a visit, with original features including 17th-century Italianate terraces lined with vibrant herbaceous borders and 30ft clipped yew trees, and an Edwardian formal garden with century-old apple trees and rose beds. Please note: a step-free route around the Gardens is available, however, due to the historic nature of the Castle, there is no disabled access to the state rooms. A virtual tour is available in the restaurant.
