The English Lakeland must surely be one of the best-loved, and most beautiful, regions in the British Isles. Here the sight and sound of water is never far away, adding a magic and serenity that draws visitors back time and time again. Windermere is perhaps the best known of the Lakeland treasures, but there are so many idyllic lakes, winding lanes and peaceful villages it's no wonder that Wordsworth gained so much inspiration here. We have some wonderful scenic tours lined up for you, exploring the very best of this beautiful area and we think you'll love every minute.
**Please note it is a condition of travel with Grand UK, for all passengers to hold valid travel insurance for the duration of their tour.**
Itinerary
Excursions
FULL DAY: A full day Lakeland adventure so phones and cameras at the ready! We start in Bowness-on-Windermere the popular tourist haunt, with its quaint alleyways and lively lakeside quays, before taking a cruise on Lake Windermere to enjoy a different aspect of the surrounding scenery. Disembarking in the small village of Lakeside we join the preserved Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. We return this afternoon by the shores of Coniston, the third largest of the lakes and forever associated with the fateful story of speed ace Donald Campbell.
FULL DAY: Our tour today takes in northern Lakeland, stopping first at the idyllic village of Grasmere, where the poet William Wordsworth lived. Then by the banks of Thirlmere we come to Keswick, a market town set on the shores of Derwentwater where there is time to explore this lively tourist centre. This afternoon we head for the shores of Ullswater, one of the largest and most beautiful lakes, before ascending Kirkstone Pass with its breathtaking lake and mountain views.
HALF DAY: This morning we head to Kendal, often referred to as the “Gateway to the Lakes”. This busy market town has many historical buildings, fascinating craft and curiosity studios and a superb Norman Castle.
