Join us as we head to the west of the Emerald Isle for our wonderful Magical Mayo tour. The base for our mainstay hotel is Ballina, the largest town in County Mayo located on the banks of the River Moy. With visits to the Stokestown Famine Museum, Foxford Woollen Mill and the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life you can really immerse yourself in Ireland’s past. Visit some of Ireland’s prettiest towns with stops in Westport, a vibrant town offering wonderful, picturesque views and Athlone, the charming town on the edge of Lough Ree, and not to forget free time in Dublin’s Fair City before heading home. Itinerary
Sunday
Depart Leyland at 10.000hrs for our journey to Holyhead to board the 14.45hrs Stena Line ferry across to Dublin with a suitable lunch stop en-route. Re-join the coach as we disembark in Dublin and continue our journey to Mullingar, Co. Westmeath where we will have an overnight stay at the Bloomfield House Hotel, arriving in time for our evening meal.
Monday
Check out of our overnight hotel following breakfast, continue our onward journey to Ballina with a stop at the National Famine Museum in Stokestown, a place that signifies a tragic but fascinating period in Irish history. Arrive at the Great National Hotel in Ballina, our home for the next four nights to a wonderful, Irish welcome with tea/coffee while our bags are taken care of.
Tuesday
A long but worthwhile day. Travel to the Georgian town of Westport for time at leisure before venturing to experience some of Mayo's most spectacular scenery. Head to Mulranny, perched on the Wild Atlantic Way; up to Corraun with dramatic views across to Achill Island. Loop back to Mulranny and the Claggan Mountain Coastal Trail for a visit to Ballycroy Visitors Centre and the unspoilt wilderness of Wild Nephin National Park.
Wednesday
Today a guide will join us on the coach for a full day excursion of Co. Mayo, bringing the heritage of the county to life. See the Killala Roundtower and the remarkable Ceide Fields overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Visit Belmullet, along the impressive coast with sandy beaches before heading back to Ballina via Bangor Erris, on the banks of the Owenmore River.
Thursday
Start the day at Foxford Woollen Mill, founded by an Irish nun in 1892 with an introduction to a century of manufacturing and craftmanship. Take time to browse before visiting the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life, here you can immerse yourselves in Irelands rural past and recent ways of life in a Victorian Gothic mansion overlooking gardens and parkland.
Friday
Check out of our hotel following breakfast to head back to Dublin and our overnight stay at The City North Hotel on the outskirts of the city with a lunch stop in Athlone en-route
Saturday
Check out of our overnight hotel following breakfast to head into the city of Dublin for some free time, allowing time for lunch, before heading to Dublin Port to bid farewell to the Emerald Isle and board the 14.45hrs Stena Line ferry to Holyhead. Re-join the coach as we disembark in Holyhead and continue our journey home.
