Description
Standing near the mouth of the river Torridge, Bideford was a busy port in Elizabethan times with ships trading from the Americas and West Indies. Today the river presents a more tranquil scene with teams of rowers vying with the occasional pleasure craft and fishing boat. The town retains its splendid 24 arch medieval bridge and charming maze of narrow streets typical of the period.
