Itinerary
Arrival Day: After joining the coach via one of our departure points or our executive Door2Door service, you will be introduced to your professional driver and whisked away in comfort to beautiful Gilsland in Cumbria. We aim to arrive between 3-4pm so that you can relax before your evening meal and settle down for your first night.
Full Day Excursion: Today we take a scenic drive along the North Pennines, one of the most remote and unspoilt areas in England, with its distinctive landscape of high moorland and broad upland dales. We journey to Hexham, England's favourite market town, where you can wander down the winding streets and marvel at the impressive abbey overlooking the market square where, today, the buzzing market will be in full swing. From here we journey back to Gilsland Hall, with our route allowing us to view parts of the impressive and historic World Heritage site of Hadrian's Wall with the beautiful scenery that surrounds it.
Free Day in Resort: Free time to explore the surrounding area and enjoy your hotel, Gilsland Hall. Stroll around some of the glorious 140 acre grounds, enjoy refreshments in Galloways bar or Hadrian's coffee shop, you can take a walk into the nearby Gilsland Village, unique in its positioning with half of the village falling in Cumbria and half in Northumberland. With lots to do and lots to see right where you are staying you can do as much or as little as you like!
Full Day Excursion: After breakfast we head to Carlisle, an urban settlement dating back to Roman times, established to serve the forts on Hadrian's Wall. In Carlisle's Historic Quarter, the social and cultural heart of the city, you will find a castle, cathedral and museums which perfectly compliment the cities contemporary side, extensive shopping facilities and many stylish, comfortable bars and eateries. From here, we head across the Scottish Border to the beautiful little village of Gretna Green, situated near the mouth of the River Esk. A visit to the famous Blacksmiths Shop, a venue for runaway weddings since 1754 and now a thriving visitor centre, is highly recommended!
Departure Day: Make the most of the wonderful food that is on offer for breakfast this morning. After a fabulous holiday, it's time to bid farewell to your hosts and Gilsland for your journey home, taking wonderful memories with you.
