DAY 1 LONDON • KUALA LUMPUR
We begin with Titan’s VIP Home Departure Service™ to London Heathrow Airport and our direct scheduled Malaysia Airlines flight to Kuala Lumpur.
DAY 2 KUALA LUMPUR • KUCHING
Early morning arrival in Kuala Lumpur where we connect with our onward flight to Kuching, capital of the largest state in Malaysia, Sarawak. On arrival, our coach transfers us to the Hilton Hotel. In the afternoon we take a city tour, driving through the old town and stopping at the Tua Pek Kong Temple. We continue to the Civic Centre to enjoy a panoramic view of the city and then drive to St Joseph’s Cathedral, the Syariah (Muslim) Court and traditional Malay houses, built on stilts. The conclusion of the tour is a visit to the Sarawak Museum, known to be one of the finest in South East Asia. It is a treasure house of artefacts and exhibits with great archaeological and cultural significance. This evening is at leisure.
DAY 3 KUCHING • BATANG AI LAKE
We depart for Batang Ai Lake stopping en route at a pepper farm and Serian, a small town with an interesting market. We stop for lunch at a local restaurant in Kurangas Gayau before proceeding to Batang Ai Lake. From here we take a motor boat to the Hilton Batang Ai Longhouse Resort, located right across the lake, our hotel for the next two nights. Remainder of the day is at leisure. We have dinner at the resort this evening.
DAY 4 BATANG AI LAKE
Today we visit an Iban longhouse and have the opportunity to watch the locals whilst they organise their daily chores, such as weaving baskets or fishing nets. We also have the chance to witness blowpipe demonstrations before lunch. Later in the day we return to the Hilton Resort for dinner.
DAY 5 BATANG AI LAKE • KUCHING KOTA KINABALU
An early breakfast, before returning to Kuching, with a stop for lunch at a local restaurant. On arrival this afternoon, we transfer to the airport for our flight to Kota Kinabalu, where our coach will transfer us to the Hyatt Regency Hotel, our base for the next three nights.
DAY 6 ISLANDS OF GAYA • SAPI & MANUKAN
This morning we transfer to the jetty to board a ferry bound for the Island of Gaya (Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park). After a short jungle walk we board the ferry again and proceed to the Island of Sapi, where time can be spent enjoying the white sandy beach or snorkelling, exploring the rich coral marine life, before heading to Manukan for lunch. We return to our hotel for a relaxing evening.
DAY 7 MENGKABONG WATER VILLAGE
This morning we depart for Mengkabong Water Village, a settlement of the Bajaus, descendants of pirates who arrived in the early 19th century. Today, the members of this tribe are fishermen who reside in a village built on the water. We also visit the market at Tuaran and take a walk on the suspension bridge before stopping at a pottery factory. After lunch at a local restaurant, we continue to Signal Hill for a 'bird's eye view' of Kota Kinabalu, before visiting the Sabah State Museum. We pass the state Mosque and take in the views of Tanjung Aru Beach before returning to our hotel this evening.
DAY 8 KINABALU NATIONAL PARK
Kinabalu National Park is a paradise for botanists, bird watchers and nature lovers, being home to a wealth of plant species, some of which are found only in this area. After lunch we continue our guided walk through some of the many park trails. We spend this evening at the peaceful Wildlife Mountain Lodge where we have dinner.
DAY 9 PORING HOT SPRINGS
Our day begins with a visit to Poring Hot Springs, en route enjoying spectacular mountain scenery, driving across the ridges of the Crocker Range. A canopy plank walk enables visitors to experience and observe the jungle from a different point of view. We continue to the hot pools and, for those who wish, a soak in the hot water. After lunch we return to Kota Kinabalu and the Hyatt Regency Hotel for the evening.
DAY 10 KOTA KINABALU • DANUM VALLEY
A very early start to the day for our flight to Sandakan, or Lahad Datu. Upon arrival, we drive to the Danum Valley and our accommodation for the next two nights, the Borneo Rainforest Lodge. This area is home to Sabah’s lowland fauna, including the rare Sumatra rhinoceros, elephant, clouded leopard, orang-utan and proboscis monkey. After lunch, the afternoon will be spent trekking along one of the trails. Dinner at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge after which, if weather permits, guests can join a jeep ride in search of wildlife. The rangers, with the aid of a powerful torchlight, will try to spot some nocturnal animals.
DAY 11 DANUM VALLEY
We will be accompanied by a naturalist this morning as our adventure continues with more trekking through this magnificent area. Lunch will be enjoyed at a jungle lodge, after which we continue our search for more wildlife or return to our lodge to relax or swim in the Danum River. After dinner this evening there will be a slide presentation on wildlife, ecology and the activities carried out in the Danum Valley. For the more energetic there may be a chance of an optional night jungle walk.
DAY 12 DANUM VALLEY • KINABATANGAN
Today we proceed to the Gomantong Caves, home to millions of bats and birds, after which we travel to Sukau, passing through vast palm oil plantations. Upon arrival at the Kinabatangan river jetty, we board a small motor boat for a short ride to the Sukau River Lodge, a simple yet restful lodge built by the lower Kinabatangan River and our base for the next two nights. Lunch will be served before a two hour river cruise along one of the tributaries of the Kinabatangan River in search of wildlife, particularly the proboscis monkeys as they settle down for the night in the tree tops along the river banks. We return to our lodge for dinner.
DAY 13 KINABATANGAN
Another full day to enjoy the area with river excursions and wildlife spotting. Lunch and dinner will be at the Sukau River Lodge today.
DAY 14 KINABATANGAN • SANDAKAN
After an early morning breakfast, we board a boat for a short cruise back to the main jetty of Kinabatangan River and depart to Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in time for the feeding of the orang-utans. The centre, located in a Nature Reserve, was created with the aim of teaching orphaned orang-utans how to survive in their natural habitat. After lunch at the Sabah Hotel we embark on a tour of Sandakan with its bustling central market and fascinating water village. We return to the Sabah Hotel for dinner this evening.
DAY 15 SANDAKAN • KUALA LUMPUR • LONDON
This morning, we depart for our indirect flight to Kuala Lumpur and onward direct scheduled international flight to London.
DAY 16 LONDON
Arrival at London Heathrow Airport where our staff will greet you and transfer you to Titan transport for your journey home to your own front door.
