Description
Eastbourne is one of Britain's more elegant resorts, enjoying a glorious location on the South Coast. Because it is sheltered by Beachy Head and the South Downs it has an excellent sunshine record, always coming around the top of the sunshine league. It has a spacious promenade to stroll along and the world-famous Carpet Gardens line the seafront. Eastbourne has clean inviting beaches predominantly of shingle leading to sand at low tide and offering excellent bathing. There's plenty to see and do with first class shops, museums, carnivals, shows, concerts, dancing in the Winter Gardens and cinemas. There is also a large variety of sporting facilities, whether you want to play or spectate, such as boating, bowls, golf, putting, and walking on the South Downs.
Itinerary
Full Day Excursion to Hastings and Rye
We visit Hastings, with the old town having a narrow High Street, which runs up from the Fisherman's Harbour, and the Fishermen's Museum in an old Victorian Chapel. We continue onto Rye, with narrow streets, many of which are cobbled, and which rise to a fine old church on the summit of the ridge on which the town is built. The 'Mermaid Inn' was one of the smugglers' favorite haunts.
Full Day Excursion to Brighton and Lewes
Boasting all the amenities of a major town, Brighton also has some unique attractions. Foremost is the iron-domed Regency Pavillion, and the oldest electric seafront railway in Britain. The heart of the town contains a quaint shopping area - 'The Lanes' - with its numerous antique and bookshops. We return via Lewes.
